Your changing body may make you feel like you're losing your mind

I talk a lot to people who tell me that in their minds they can still run marathons but in reality, their bodies are no longer up for the challenge. How do you come to accept that about yourself when you’ve been an active person throughout your life?

-Note the things you can do. Sometimes that’s still a lot more than your peers, sometimes not. Do what you can and focus on that thing. Sit down and make a list or look yourself in the mirror and remind yourself what you still are capable of, in spite of your age, your illness, your circumstances.

-Don’t think because you cannot do it today, that means you should give up on your goals. I’m 35 and my goal is to be able to do a move that I’ve seen a 98 year old do (FYI, this video link is about 5 years old). Be where you are and maybe if you keep practicing, you’ll get there one day.

- Accept where you’re at today. Remind yourself, "today, I am here. Here’s where I begin. Tomorrow may be better, it may be worse, but for this moment, I am here." Then, ask yourself "what do I want to do?"
